Home Energy Evaluations: Great Information for Existing Homes

Chances are, you're spending much more on utility bills than you need to be.  A home energy audit gives you the opportunity to fix that.  Using the latest technology, including a blower door to assess air leakage, a duct blaster to assess duct leakage and infrared thermography, a comprehensive home energy audit will point out leaks in your home's thermal envelope, deficiencies in insulation, and other opportunities to stop heat loss and reduce energy consumption, while improving the comfort and safety of your home. In addition to recommending fixes to reduce energy, we'll also evaluate carbon monoxide safety, mold and other air quality isssues and improvements to temperature and lighting comfort. Our comprehensive audit report will include a prioritized list of potential improvements, and an estimate of the savings our recommended work will likely lead to.

Energy Star Partner

ENERGY STAR For Homes

We are proud to provide rating services to qualify new homes for the ENERGY STAR® label. ENERGY STAR qualified new homes are substantially more energy efficient than homes built to the minimum code requirements. Even in states with more rigorous energy codes, the U.S. EPA ensures that ENERGY STAR remains the symbol for truly energy-efficient performance. These homes are good for businesses, consumers, and the environment.  For more information about this service click here.

Home Buyer Energy Evaluations

Home Buyer Energy Evaluations

When you buy a car, how important is the gas milage/efficiency?  In most cases, it will be one of the deciding factors.  Wouldn't it be great if you knew how efficient a home is?  It is relatively easy to guage how much the utilities will cost by asking the seller for this informatioin, but that does not tell you how efficient the home is.  That is where we come into play.  We will not only tell you how efficient the home is but also provide a path to make that home more efficient.  Contact us toaday.

Red Blower Door Testing

Blower Door Testing

Blower door testing is a way to test the "leakiness" of your home. By depressurizing your home and measuring the rate at which air infiltrates through imperfections in the building envelope, we're able to assess how much energy (and money) is escaping through air leaks, and how much you're likely to save by fixing those leaks.  Blower door testing provides homeowners and contractors with a roadmap to further improve a home's efficiency.

Duct Blaster Testing

Duct Blaster Testing

A Duct Blaster is a calibrated air flow measurement system designed to test and document the airtightness of forced air duct systems in both houses and light commercial buildings. The Duct Blaster fan is connected directly to the duct system in a house, typically at a central return, or at the air handler cabinet. With the remaining registers and grilles temporarily taped off, duct airtightness is measured by either pressurizing or depressurizing the duct system and precisely measuring the fan flow and duct pressure.  Once the ducts are pressurized, we can incorporate a theatrical fog machine to the fan intake.  Now we can not only know how much the duct system leaks, but also identify and document those leaks as the fog seeps out of these imperfections.

Duct airtightness measurements are used to diagnose and demonstrate leakage problems, estimate efficiency losses from duct leakage, and certify compliance with duct leakage standards.  Contact us today!

Check out this cool video the Duct Blaster and Blower Door running simultaneously. This allows us to not only calculate how much your house leaks, the duct's total leakage, the duct's leakage to outside and the duct's leakage inside, but also WHERE these leaks are occuring. Pretty cool!

Home Performance Contractor

Home Performance Contracting

The goal of home performance contracting is to fix the inefficiencies identified by an energy evaluation. The result is a home that is more durable, more comfortable, more energy efficient and better for the environment and future generations—exactly how a home should be.
